Dr. Robert Mulgrew
Dr. Robert Mulgrew has practiced in Tucson for over 25 years. He opened Affinity Eye Care in 2009, and is excited about this new venture. Prior to Affinity Eye Care, he was the independent leasehold doctor for LensCrafters here in Tucson.
Dr. Mulgrew is originally from the Bronx, New York. He moved to New Jersey where he attended high school. He later moved to Indiana and graduated from Indiana University in 1980 with a degree in Biology. He moved to Tucson after graduation and worked as a research assistant for The University of Arizona and the Pima County Health Department.
Dr. Mulgrew completed his four years of Optometry School at the Southern California School of Optometry and he received his doctorate in 1985. He did his internships at the Los Angeles and Tucson Veterans Association Medical Centers and he was senior class president.
Dr. Mulgrew returned to Tucson in 1985 and became the leasehold doctor associated with LensCrafters in 1987. He is a member of the Southern Arizona Optometric Association and served as Vice President and President. He is a 24 year member of the American Optometric Association and he is currently a board member of the AOA's Practice Transitions Committee. He was LensCrafter's Doctor of the Year and chairman of its Optometric Advisory Council in 2005. In 1996, Dr. Mulgrew accepted a sabbatical position as a clinical tutor in contact lenses at the University of Auckland School of Optometry in New Zealand.
Dr. Mulgrew has participated in many international Gift of Sight missions. He has helped thousands of people in such countries as Bolivia, Ecuador, China, Panama, and most recently Bulgaria. He is a member of the Flying Samaritans and has done several missions in Mexico. In addition, our office has provided hundreds of free exams for local school children and needy individuals.
Dr. Mulgrew has one son, who was recently accepted to the University of Oregon School of Dentistry. Dr. Mulgrew is an avid golfer and tennis player. He enjoys hiking, scuba diving and traveling.
