Dr. Laura Gudenkauf grew up in Tucson and received her undergraduate degree in physiology from the University of Arizona in 2010. She and her husband then moved to Columbus, where they both attended graduate programs at the Ohio State University. Upon receiving her optometry degree from OSU in 2014, she and her husband were happy to return to their hometown.
Dr. Gudenkauf has completed internships at the Huntington VA Medical Center, and practices specializing in cataract surgery and refractive eye surgery, and in several specialty clinics at OSU including: contact lens, ocular disease, low vision rehabilitation, binocular vision and pediatrics. She received top academic honors from both the U of A and OSU, and has received numerous awards for academic achievement and leadership in her community and profession. Dr. Gudenkauf was her class secretary, a member of SVOSH (a humanitarian organization that travels abroad to provide eye care to those with limited health care access), and an officer in two honor societies: Gold Key and Beta Sigma Kappa.
Dr. Gudenkauf is passionate about eye care and is a member of the American Optometric Association, Arizona Optometric Association, and Southern Arizona Optometric Society. Her eye care focuses include diagnosing and managing ocular diseases, particularly dry eye syndrome, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and contact lens complications. Dr. Gudenkauf also enjoys working with specialty contact lenses, and had the honor to receive the 2014 GP Contact Lens Clinical Excellence Award from OSU for her work fitting patients with keratoconus in corneal GP lenses and scleral lenses. Other interests include horseback riding, dog agility, archery, board games, scuba diving, and travelling.
